Iran Sanctions No Longer Affect QIIP

RCI is happy to announce the lift of additional compliance steps regarding Iranian nationals in the QIIP.
The sanctions against Iran which for years have created additional steps regarding transfers of funds or Iranian nationals to Canada for the purposes of the QIIP have now been modified, according to a recent announcement made by Global Affairs Canada. The change takes effect immediately.

What does this mean?

Starting now, RCI will no longer require a special permit to receive funds from Iranian QIIP applicants. This also means that MIDI will no longer suspend processing of the files of Iranian nationals since the permit is no longer needed to transfer the funds. Processing of files that are currently suspended at MIDI has now resumed, and deadlines are now fully operational.

My file’s processing was suspended because of the sanctions. What next?

Please contact with your RCI account manager immediately to proceed with your client’s investment as soon as possible. Do not wait any longer since deadlines are fully in force.

Are all sanctions lifted?

No. Canada has maintained its sanctions against certain Iranian national as well as a number of companies, as supported by the 2231 United Nations Resolution. This full text of the Resolution is available online here.

A new QIIP in the future

As many of you know, a reform of the Quebec Immigration Act is currently taking place, and MIDI is looking to modify the current QIIP. MIDI has therefore announced that it is considering new parameters for the QIIP, which have yet to be defined.

Is there any information about the new QIIP?

Not yet. At this stage, there is no additional information available regarding the projected new QIIP. There is no knowledge of the expected time-line either.  However, the reform of the QIIP is expected to be an extensive project. Of course, the RCI team will follow it closely and keep you updated.
