Hong Kong Interviews Cancelled

As many of you are now aware, MIDI announced last week that due to labour negotiations in the Quebec public sector, it had to cancel the upcoming mission to the BIQ due to take place in Hong Kong from January 18 until February 25, 2016.  Therefore, all interviews scheduled for that period are now cancelled. Letters to the affected QIIP applicants are currently being issued by MIDI.

Whether the following mission, scheduled to take place in Hong Kong from the 2nd of March until April 7, will take place or whether it it will also be cancelled remains unknown.

Transferring Interviews to Montreal

Those who are affected by the cancellation of the interviews in Hong Kong may request to have their selection interview transferred to MIDI offices in Montreal, provided they can secure a visa to travel to Canada. Those who wish to transfer their selection interviews from Hong Kong to Montreal may do so by communicating directly with their RCI account manager. We will then formulate the requests to the BIQ in Hong Kong. New interview letters will then be issued and those individuals will have to take the necessary steps to acquire their visas to travel to Canada.

While any applicant can request that his interview be transferred to Montreal, those who are currently affected by the cancellation will be given priority processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I request a transfer, will my selection interview in Montreal be scheduled on the same date it was scheduled in Hong Kong?
No. MIDI will issue new interview letters entirely, with a new date for the interview to take place.

When would my selection interview take place?
While priority is given to the applicants affected by the cancellations in Hong Kong, it cannot confirm interview dates at this time.

What documents would I have to bring to an interview in Montreal?
The same as you would if your interview was scheduled in Hong Kong. Applicants are required to have their complete files with them at the time of the interview. While updates already provided to BIQ Hong Kong will not be requested a second time, applicants will nevertheless need to bring their entire file as well as any document requested by MIDI in the new interview letter.

I have already paid for an interpreter in Hong Kong. What happens with the money I have sent to BIQ for the interpreter?
MIDI will retain this amount for the selection interview of the applicant, and will therefore consider the interpreter services to have been prepaid.

Can I get an invitation letter?
Please communicate with your RCI account manager on this question.

What if I cannot travel to Canada or my visa application is denied?
The BIQ will issue new interview letters at a later time for those who are unable to travel to Canada. MIDI cannot guarantee at this time when such interviews will be scheduled.

Can I request to transfer my interview to Montreal even if I am currently not affected by the cancellations?
Yes you may. However, MIDI will give priority to clients who were issued interview letters and whose interviews in Hong Kong were cancelled.

Do not hesitate to communicate with your RCI account manager if you have any questions.
